Self-Drive vs Chauffeur-Driven: Which Should You Book?

Both options get you where you're going — the right one just depends on the trip. Here's how we'd think about it.

Choose self-drive if:

  • You enjoy driving and want full control of your schedule and stops.
  • The route is mostly highway or city roads you're comfortable with.
  • You want the lowest cost per day — self-drive is generally cheaper since you're not paying for a driver's time and stay.

Choose chauffeur-driven if:

  • The route includes hill or ghat sections, night driving, or heavy city traffic you'd rather avoid.
  • You want everyone in the group to relax, or you're travelling with kids or elderly family.
  • It's a business trip and you need to work, take calls, or arrive without being tired.

What about cost?

Self-drive is usually the more budget-friendly option for shorter, simpler trips. Chauffeur-driven rentals cost more per day but can work out comparable once you factor in driver fatigue, unfamiliar roads, and the value of everyone in the car actually getting to enjoy the trip.

Our take

For city use, daily errands, or a straightforward highway trip — self-drive. For outstation trips with ghat roads, long distances, or a group that wants to relax — chauffeur-driven. If you're not sure, tell us your route and we'll recommend one.
