Mumbai to Goa Road Trip: Route Guide & Car Recommendations
The Mumbai-Goa drive is one of India's classic road trips — roughly 590 km and 10-12 hours via NH66, running close to the Konkan coast most of the way.
The route
NH66 hugs the coast through Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts, with the option to detour to beaches and forts along the way. It's a well-maintained highway for most of the stretch, with a few winding ghat sections.
Worth stopping for
- Ganpatipule — a quiet beach town with a well-known temple, roughly halfway.
- Ratnagiri — historic fort and, in season, the famous Alphonso mangoes.
- Tarkarli — clear-water beaches near the Maharashtra-Goa border, worth an overnight stop.
One day or two?
Doing it in one day means 10+ hours of driving — doable but tiring. Splitting it with an overnight stop around Ganpatipule or Tarkarli turns it into a much more relaxed trip and lets you actually see the coast.
Which car to book
For this distance, we'd suggest a chauffeur-driven sedan or SUV — the XUV700 if you want extra comfort for a full group, or the Dzire if you're a couple or small group prioritising fuel economy. Self-drive works too if you're confident with a long highway drive and plan to split it over two days.
